Leica has been making cameras for about a century now, giving testament to their outstanding quality and consistency. As we're not photography experts and the cost of their cameras is significant, we won't go into much detail. Be sure to research their products for yourself and determine whether they suit your needs. However, from what we hear, Leica seems to offer some of the best cameras in the world.
If they are a bit outside your budget, don't hesitate to look at pre-owned models as they're often still of excellent quality.
Attention: while most Leica cameras are made in Europe, they do offer a few cheaper models made in China (PRC). So be sure to always check the product description or origin label if possible.
The origin of any of the raw materials or electronics is currently unknown.
Most of the machining and pre-assembly of the cameras is done in Portugal, after which the parts are shipped to Germany where the more delicate operations and assembly take place [1].
The lenses themselves are predominantly made in Germany, however recently some lenses have been produced in Portugal as well.
Attention: while most Leica cameras are made in Europe, they do offer a few cheaper models made in China (PRC). So be sure to always check the product description or origin label if possible.
