Ritterwerk is a German company founded in 1907 by Franz Ritter in a small garage on the outskirts of Munich. Originally the company made knife cleaning machines which were of great importance as stainless steel wasn’t available at the time and rust was a real problem. However, when stainless steel did started to be more and more prominent, their market disappeared. So by the late 1930’s the company switched to making and selling their first bread-slicing machine.
Since the company has expanded on their slicer with new and electric models, as well as other kitchen appliances such as toasters, kettles and blenders. Throughout more than a century they have kept their production in Germany, were all their products are still being made today.
Aside from that, they also have a continuous focus on quality and repairability. If one of your appliances breaks, there’s no need to throw it out. You can send the device back and they will repair it for a reasonable price, even if you bought it 15 years ago. If the damage is minor, they’ll send you a replacement part and instructions on how to repair it yourself.
