Darn Tough Vermont
Darn Tough socks is a brand created by sock manufacturer Cabot Hosiery mills. The company was founded in 1978 by Marc Cabot and started out as a contract manufacturer for retailers which relabeled the socks under their own brands. But during the 90’s the company fell on hard times as these retailers started to look for cheaper alternatives overseas. They ended up having to lay off workers and ended up with millions of dollars in debt.
Instead of throwing in the towel though and moving production overseas, the family decided to invest more of their own capital into the business and in 2004 started selling their high quality socks under their own brand. Darn Tough socks were born. Since then the company has grown far beyond what it used to be as a contract manufacturer and even started to expand their factory space.
